Snips and snails and puppy dogs' tails...

Snips and snails and puppy dogs' tails, that's what little boys are made of.

We are so excited about the little man-child that is growing inside me. He is 1 lb 7 oz and rapidly putting on his baby fat. The ultrasound was amazing because we got to see so much of him, including his organs and skeleton. Baby boy even opened his mouth and we could see his tongue moving. It was crazy and cool at the same time. He also moved his whole body constantly, making it difficult for the technician to take pictures. She remarked about how active he is and I told her that he's like a marching band most days!

As I sit on my couch, recovering from the stomach flu, I'm just amazed at how God has designed my body to take care of the baby, even in the midst of sickness. Today I get to start eating solid foods again and I'm actually hungry. Yay!

  • I'm such a freakin' Republican

Toby and I watched the Democratic National Debate (YouTube style) back in the summer...it was interesting to hear from the candidates and discuss their stances on each issue. Tonight we turned on the Republican Debates on Fox News. I found myself saying "Amen" many times. I always think of myself as being very "in-the-middle" when it comes to politics, but when I really pay attention to the issues and explore the ramifications of each side of the debate, I realize how truly conservative I am.

The baby kicked hard when Mitt Romney was speaking. Not sure what that means...Hmmm...

Blessed is the man whose quiver is full.

It is amazing, this miracle of creation. When people refer to the "miracle of birth" they usually refer to the actual delivery of a child. But I have to confess that I am focused entirely on the miracle of the life inside of me right now.

It's a beautiful time of my pregnancy, one where I no longer feel nauseous or ride extreme waves of hormones (note the emphasis on extreme--the mood swings still occur sometimes). The baby is kick, kick, kicking away. Tonight I noticed the imbalance in my stomach, it seemed the right side was much bigger than the left. Wondering if this was because of the way that baby is positioned, I put my hand firmly on the right side of my stomach. When I released my hand, sure enough, the baby kicked just at the spot where I had held my hand. Delighted with my discovery, I called my husband to come join my frivolous gazing at my bulging tummy.

This is an age where we know more about a fetus and how it develops than ever before. For instance, I know that my child already has all of his/her organs, has fully developed eyebrows, and kicks 50 times per hour (or more!). The baby now hears my voice and will be able to recognize it when he/she makes the grand entrance out of the womb and into the world.

The beauty and awesomeness of it all makes me rejoice, sing hymns, recall scripture and praise God for His creation. Psalm 127:3-5 "Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them."
